Staff Spotlight: Zack Zehri

Zack Zehri is among the most recent additions to the Davis Chevrolet team and he has an interesting take on his sales manager position. While selling vehicles is certainly important to Zehri, he doesn’t view his job as a strictly sales position. He draws on his diverse background in a variety of people-centred jobs to help him connect with customers. Follow along while he tells us about his journey to the dealership and some of the lessons he learned along the way.

“I’m not good at many things, but one thing I’m good at is making friends,” Zehri said. “Give me five minutes, and 95 percent of the time, I’ll make a new friend or have a pleasant exchange.”

There isn’t a lot that can truly prepare a person for what they’ll experience working on the sales floor of an automotive dealership like Davis Chevrolet. That is probably why so many people from widely different backgrounds find their way to the profession. Zehri’s people-centred experience prior to becoming a sales manager came from the world of hospitality.

“I think what really moulded me was serving tables,” Zehri said. “You have to be friendly and work the room to make your tips, right? I grew up in a neighbourhood close to downtown (Toronto) and there were people everywhere. I think that’s really helped me today.”

A lot of things have changed in the automotive industry in the last several years. In the old days, sales staff needed to be product experts on everything sitting on the lot or in the showroom. Zehri has recognized that easier access to information has changed the game and, thus, his role in a customer’s car-buying journey.

“People have Google. They’ve watched 15 YouTube videos (about the car they want to buy),” Zehri said. “So, it’s not so much that you have these sales tactics or anything like that. It’s about managing expectations, managing timelines and breaking down the financial side of it. And being transparent, truthful, and efficient.”

Dream Car

Automobiles can be many different things to different people. Just about everyone has a car that they aspire to own. Zehri has an appreciation for some of the best things, evidenced by his dream Ferrari 488. Not uncoincidentally, he would also like a GMC Sierra Denali – because practicality also matters.
