Keep Your Windshield Free of Ice and Snow

What Is the Best Way to Remove Ice From Your Car?
Just about all of us live busy lives. During the winter, we need to add extra time to our schedules to deal with changing weather patterns and, of course, clean the snow and ice off our cars, trucks and SUVs. Use De-Icing Spray
One of the quickest ways to remove ice and snow from the windshield and other glass components is de-icing spray. Some of these products are a mix of chemicals that can be purchased in almost any automotive store. If you don’t like the idea of spraying unknown chemicals around your vehicle, a simple at-home remedy includes a little rubbing alcohol, water, and dish soap. Here is our favourite recipe:
- Mix two parts isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with one part water in a spray bottle.
- Add a few drops of dish soap for extra effectiveness.Â
- Spray directly onto ice-covered glass surfaces, and watch the ice melt quickly.
Get An Ice Scraper
In our part of the country, everyone should have an ice scraper in their vehicle at all times. However, if you need to buy one the first time, be sure to find something that will work for the person removing the snow. That means finding a scraper that is long enough to reach across the windshield.
Avoid using a credit card if possible, because it will likely render the card unusable.
Cover the Windshield and Rear Window
Place some old towels or blankets over the windshield and rear window. This will prevent ice from forming and, to clear the visual obstruction, gently remove the towel or blanket. The glass should be clean and ready to go.
Place plastic shopping bags over the side mirror to prevent them from becoming ice-covered.
